Toby Braun

Founder & Managing Partner

Toby Braun is a nationally recognized leader in private intelligence, professional investigations, and strategic security consulting. He is the founder and principal of American Special Investigative Group (ASIG), a multi-jurisdictional investigative and intelligence firm trusted by clients across the spectrum, from small businesses and family offices to U.S. corporations, Fortune 500 companies, leading law firms, government agencies, and private clients.

As a Board-Certified Investigator, Certified International Investigator, public speaker, and accomplished security expert, Braun has built ASIG into one of the most trusted firms in the nation for high-stakes investigations, crisis response, and private intelligence services. His approach blends discretion, precision, and results, qualities that have earned him recognition as one of the foremost authorities in his field.

Drawing on federal government and private-sector experience, Braun’s career includes the tracing of nearly one billion dollars in hidden and illicit assets and the successful location and arrest of over one hundred fugitives worldwide. He has personally led or advised on hundreds of complex cases involving corporate fraud, extortion, financial crimes, surveillance operations, litigation support, international investigations, human trafficking, due diligence, and executive protection, with both investigative and private security assignments spanning South and Central America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Beyond his private-sector work, Braun serves as a Military Officer in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, specializing in maritime law enforcement management. He is also a certified law enforcement instructor and active shooter response instructor, and serves as an appointed member, advisor, and instructor to several state and county law enforcement agencies.

Fluent in German and French, Braun holds a Master’s degree in National Security and Intelligence Studies and is an active member of leading professional associations, including the Council of International Investigators, National Association of Legal Investigators, International Intelligence Network, World Association of Detectives, ASIS International, International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts, and the Florida, Texas, Arizona, and California Associations of Licensed Investigators.

Trent Steele

Managing Partner

Mr. Steele became a partner and director of intelligence at American Special Investigative Group in 2016, bringing with him over a decade of experience and a diverse background in investigations and intelligence. His extensive work in the field includes serving as a credentialed federal investigator specializing in counterintelligence investigations involving personnel from the Department of Defense, Department of Justice, and Department of State. Mr. Steele continues to remain active in the counterintelligence field as a government contractor.

Apart from his professional work, Mr. Steele and his wife co-founded the Anti-Predator Project, a nationally recognized 501(c)3 that focuses on criminal investigations into individuals and organizations involved in human trafficking, as well as the recovery of American children bought and sold on the black market. Mr. Steele’s passion for reducing the occurrence of children being exploited in sex trafficking has made him a sought-after expert in the field of human trafficking, multi-jurisdictional investigations, and organized crime. He regularly consults with non-profit organizations and law enforcement agencies around the world.

Before beginning his career as an investigator, Mr. Steele worked in management for the world’s largest security and government contractor, where he also served as a Program Director for multi-million-dollar government contracts. He has held a private investigator license since 2011 and holds an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Northeast Iowa Community College, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a specialty in Forensic Psychology from Kaplan University.

Mr. Steele is a member of various professional organizations, including the Association of Former Intelligence Officers, International Association of Forensic Criminologists, and International Association of Human Trafficking Investigators.

Tim Rose

Professional Investigator & Director of Public Relations

Tim Rose has served the United States as both a Special Agent in the FBI and decorated member of the armed forces. Beginning in 2006, he was commissioned into the US Army and completed his training at Infantry School, Ranger School, and Airborne School before being assigned to 173rd ABCT in Vicenza, Italy. He was deployed to Afghanistan, first to Bermel, then transferred to a Heavy Weapons Platoon in Gomal, before attending Special Forces Assessment and Selection in May 2009. Following his graduation from the Maneuver Captains Career Course at Ft. Benning and the Special Forces Qualification Course at Ft. Bragg, he was stationed at 10th SFG (A) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Tim served as a Detachment Commander in Alpha Company, 2nd BN, 10 SFG (A), focusing on the European AOR and Underwater and Maritime Operations. His ODA deployed to Senegal in support of Operation Juniper Shield, where he worked as the Special Operations Forces Liaison Element (SOFLE) in the Dakar, Senegal US Embassy.

After separating from Active Duty in the summer of 2014, Tim joined the Maryland National Guard as an ODA Commander, leading the training of his ODA and foreign partners. He also taught a one-week Counter Insurgency course in Bosnia on behalf of the Maryland Army National Guard. As a civilian, Tim worked as a contractor for BAE Systems and Booz Allen Hamilton, overseeing Special Operation and Human Intelligence equities and projects within various government intelligence agencies, including the Defense Intelligence Agency, Office of the Director of National Security, and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.

In 2016, Tim was hired as a Special Agent for the FBI, where he became an FBI Human Intelligence (HUMINT) certified instructor, an interrogation instructor and trainer, and worked on the Organized crime and HUMINT squads. During his time in the FBI, he handled over 15 Confidential Human Sources (CHS), or spies and informants.

Patrick J. Doliny

Cyber Threat Intelligence & Digital Forensics Expert

Patrick J. Doliny retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving honorably in the United States Marine Corps. Similar to his military career, Mr. Doliny rapidly advanced in the business world. During his time in the military, he received high praise and was awarded the Meritorious Service Citation, Commander’s Medal, and the prestigious Navy Cross while serving with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Currently, Mr. Doliny holds the position of Chief Information Officer for Florida Memorial University, one of South Florida’s few historically black colleges and universities. In this role, he is responsible for guiding the university’s IT strategy.

Mr. Doliny has extensive experience working in various regions around the world, including Africa and the Middle East. In the past, he served as the Chief Technology Officer for a company in that region, where he interacted with leading academics, technology policy elites, and government decision-makers to create or maintain a technology policy environment that supports the country’s or subsidiary’s growth objectives. Before that, he was the Chief Information Officer for the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, overseeing the development and management of computer systems and emergency phone equipment for over 6,700 users who served the Broward County citizens.

Mr. Doliny has held several significant technology positions in his career, including the Vice President of Technology for Microsoft Corporation. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Business Management at Florida International University and then went on to receive his Master’s in Business Administration with a focus on technology management (MBA in e-Business) from the University of Miami. Furthermore, he is currently an active doctoral student at Walden University, working towards his doctoral degree in Information Technology Management.

In his community, Mr. Doliny is involved with several organizations, including The Institute of Management Accounting, The CIO Council of South Florida, and various Digital Divide initiatives. He has also served on local and community boards, working closely with Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC). Additionally, he created “Be Safe Online,” a social network. Mr. Doliny is an excellent public speaker and makes himself available for speaking engagements on Internet safety and IT security in law enforcement and the public sector.

Staci Weaver

Professional Investigator & Area Director

Mrs. Weaver boasts a comprehensive professional history that spans a 15-year career in law enforcement with the Plantation, Florida Police Department. Throughout her tenure, she specialized in DUI and drug enforcement, holding certifications as a Drug Recognition Expert. Additionally, she served as a Field Training Officer, Domestic Violence Investigator, Police Academy Instructor, and Accident & Traffic Homicide Investigator.

Driven by her passion, Mrs. Weaver transitioned from her law enforcement career to work as a Principal for a large public school. She ultimately rose through the ranks to become Superintendent in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, all while maintaining her status as the sole female private investigator in Texas who holds both superintendent and former police officer credentials.

Mrs. Weaver holds both a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and an MBA in Global Management.

In 2020, Mrs. Weaver joined the American Special Investigative Group with great pride.

Marc Brasher

Chief Investigator, Cryptocurrency Investigations & Cybercrime

Marc is proud to lead our cryptocurrency investigations and cybercrime unit. He is a dedicated cybersecurity professional with 17 years of cybersecurity experience ranging from building, maintaining, and protecting military networks to conducting offensive operations in a dynamic and complex environment.

Marc is a proven penetration tester with over 5,000 hours supporting the National Security Agency (NSA) and USCYBERCOM as an interactive operator and Mission Director. During his time with the NSA, Marc developed, deployed, and maintained extensive code bases for offensive cyber operations and led critical national security projects.

Throughout his career in both the U.S. government and private sector, Marc has demonstrated a capacity to lead teams, identify root causes, and solve intricate challenges. Marc is also an expert witness in cryptocurrency fraud, cyber fraud, and cybersecurity.

Geoff T. Burnham, CFE

Forensic Accountant

Geoff serves as ASIG’s forensic accountant and brings a highly specialized blend of legal, investigative, and financial expertise to complex cases. He is a licensed attorney, a Certified Fraud Examiner, and a former Special Agent with IRS Criminal Investigations Division. During his federal career, Geoff investigated criminal tax violations along with a wide range of financial crimes including bank fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering.
In private practice, Geoff has represented clients in IRS audits, examinations, assessments, and collection matters. His legal background, combined with firsthand knowledge of federal investigative procedures, allows him to navigate sensitive financial disputes with confidence and accuracy.

As a forensic accountant, Geoff has supported numerous litigation teams with detailed financial analysis involving theft of funds, embezzlement, family law disputes, and other financial conflicts. He is known for his ability to identify irregularities, trace assets, and present complex financial information in a clear and persuasive manner.

Geoff’s combined experience as an attorney, federal investigator, and forensic accountant strengthens ASIG’s capabilities in fraud analysis, asset tracing, tax related investigations, and high level litigation support.

Liz Steele

Client Service Administrator

After graduating with an A.S. in Marketing Management from Northeast Iowa Community College in 2008, Mrs. Steele moved to Miami, Florida. She started her career in law enforcement in 2012 as a Communications Officer with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in the Florida Keys. During her tenure, Mrs. Steele played an integral role in developing the Communication Officer Training Academy curriculum and was subsequently promoted to Communications Officer Supervisor.

Driven by her desire to assist individuals in distress, Mrs. Steele co-founded the Anti-Predator Project in 2012, a national non-profit organization that rescues children from sexual slavery. Since its inception, Mrs. Steele has dedicated herself to helping survivors obtain access to resources and attain a fresh start in life.
